Attainable Housing
I've been a homeowner in Adams County since 2018, and I've heard from too many neighbors whose adult children can't afford to stay here, from seniors who want to downsize but have nowhere to go, from young families struggling because housing costs keep rising. The housing crisis requires the same analytical rigor I apply to complex engineering projects: understanding what infrastructure actually exists before approving what gets built on top of it.
Growing up working-class, I learned that the real cost of housing isn't just the mortgage. It's the utility bills when infrastructure is overwhelmed, the hours lost in long commutes when development happens without transportation planning, the property value impacts when poor decisions catch up with a neighborhood. Engineering taught me to count all the costs before we commit.
Smart planning today prevents expensive problems tomorrow. By prioritizing thoughtful infrastructure and holistic planning before approving development, we can build communities that work for working families like yours, not just on paper but in practice.
As Your Commissioner, I will:
1
Protect Affordability for Everyone
-
Protect both renters who need affordable options and homeowners who've worked hard to build equity
-
Prevent hidden costs from getting passed to residents through higher utility fees or degraded services
2
Infrastructure Analysis and Understanding
-
Require infrastructure analysis before approving development
-
Can our roads handle the traffic? Is the water supply adequate? Are we building near good jobs?
-
3
Create Complete Communities
-
Create holistic neighborhoods where housing, jobs, and local businesses work together to create community
-
Protect parks, community spaces, and local services that make neighborhoods livable
